This was my first paint by numbers kit, so I tried to get a good variety of helpful tools and I tried a variety of print types. There were definitely some good and bad with this kit, but overall it was a positive experience. But let’s start with the bad. A small complaint I had was that some of the numbering didn’t make much sense. There would be a larger section and then within it would be a smaller shape that you’d think you need to paint around. However, the two numbers would be the same. I’m not sure why they would have a different shape cut out when the whole section was one color. It wasn’t a huge deal, but it made me sort of question if it was numbered correctly. My biggest complaint with the kit was the brushes. I got three different paintings and they all came with the same three crappy brushes that got frayed and yucky after only a few hours of painting. I’d rather just have the option to get the kits a bit cheaper without brushes and use my own. Once I bought some detailing brushes, it changed the game and the little sections got sooooo much easier! The other thing that made this a million times easier was the flow aid. I’m telling you, GET IT! I know some people just use water and I did for a few colors, but the flow aid worked so much better and didn’t cause any issues with color fading or changing. Another thing I really appreciated about the kit was the canvas and paint quality. It isn’t professional, but it was still quality enough that it felt good to use. The paint didn’t crack at all and it only clumped up in places where I messed up and got it too thick. There were only a few colors that were a bit unpigmented. The canvas only had a single section towards the bottom that was a bit crinkled that made it somewhat strange to paint. Overall, the whole process was fun and meditative. I appreciated the printed sheet that came with the numbers on it because I ended up referencing it a lot in smaller sections where I partially covered numbers and towards the end when I was doing touch ups. I also appreciated that the art of my paintings were NOT AI. They were gorgeous and full of life! I will definitely be buying more when I finish the three I have.
