A great owl on a moonlit branch, a tiny fairy perched at the door of her tree, and a window glowing gold in the dark. Fairy Tales is a storybook night scene built for the brush — silver moonlight, turquoise stars, ivy and lit leaves — and it comes together one numbered section at a time. No experience needed: match the numbers, fill the shapes, and watch the enchantment arrive.
Knock, and the tree itself will answer. Fairy Tales sets a great owl on a thick horizontal branch, center right against open sky. It is a big bird, softly layered in ivory, pale gray, warm tan and brown, with a rounded cream face, a dark eye ringed in amber-brown, a small beak, and its head tilted left — turned deliberately toward the fairy, listening. One barred gray feather of its tail hangs below the perch. Its talons close around the bark.
To the left, small and low, the fairy sits at the edge of a narrow wooden ledge built out from the trunk. Pale skin, long brown hair trailing behind her, broad translucent wings rising at her back and finely lined with vein-like detail, a short purple dress. One leg folds beneath her, the other hangs over the ledge, and she leans forward, looking right, back at the owl. Below her, set into the deeply ridged trunk, a small dark wooden door with curving black ironwork, its arched upper window burning warm yellow-gold through a black diamond lattice. A tiny green spark of magic glows beside it, and shelf-like fungi in ocher, amber and brown push out from the bark around the doorway.
Above and behind everything, a large pale blue-white full moon hangs in the upper right, crossed by branches and leaves, in a deep navy, cobalt and indigo sky scattered with bright blue star points, white and cyan stars, and drifting turquoise motes of light. Green leaves cluster along the branches, dense ivy climbs the lower left of the trunk, and cool blue rim light picks out the bark, the foliage, the owl's feathers and the fairy's wings.
That blue-against-gold contrast is the whole pleasure of this kit. Cold moonlight everywhere, one warm window, and two small figures quietly regarding each other in the middle of it. The broad passages — the night sky, the trunk, the leaf masses, the owl's pale plumage — build quickly, then the painting rewards patience in the details: the deep ridges of the bark, the vein lines in the wings, the diamond lattice, the shelf fungi, the ironwork on the door, and finally the owl's eye. That single dark eye with its amber ring is where the painting comes alive.

I chose the most colors. But some of the areas were just too small to make a difference. I would probably chose fewer colors next time. Also, some of the paint was thick and would not spread easily. The picture I added of my niece did not come out in great detail on the painting. Looked a little blurred. I did run short on a couple colors. You can order more but I expect it takes a while to get. The painting took a while to get. I am used to 2 to 3 days delivery, so waiting 2 weeks seems slow in today's world. I did enjoy painting and can see myself doing it again.

I want to give this five stars so badly! It is a lovely painting, the canvas quality is great as usual. And the paint quality is also great. However, there is one paint, paint number #27 (0726), that is the most miserable paint I've ever used. The consistency is like water; it does not go on the canvas very well. And when it does go on it just looks awful. Unfortunately it's used a lot so it's making that part of the painting so frustrating. Like I said I want to give it five stars, but that one particular paint is so awful I simply cannot. That being said, I will still order from this company again and again!

Writing I've completed a lot of paint-by-numbers kits from different companies, but this was my first Davincified painting. The canvas was excellent. It arrived rolled, so there were no annoying creases, and it was clearly numbered, with different colours used to help identify each area. I can't comment on the quality of the supplied paintbrushes, as I have previously purchased my own. My only criticism would be the inconsistency in the consistency of the paints. I found that some needed thinning down, but then found it difficult to achieve the same consistency when I needed to use that colour again. Overall, I was very pleased with the canvas and the clear numbering, although I would have liked the paints to have a more consistent consistency.
